Hi! I’m Katie
(and that’s Mollie)
Ten years ago, I was lucky enough to find Lancaster Cottage. Since then, I’ve spent that time welcoming guests, improving the cottage, and shaping it into the gorgeous retreat it is today.
When the cottage came up for sale, it was one of those rare moments when you just know. I came to view it after a long journey back to the UK (I worked abroad at the time) and, before even stepping inside, found the garden and stopped for a moment.
It was completely overgrown, but incredibly peaceful other than the sound of the birds, bees and animals grazing nearby. I hadn’t seen the house yet, but I already knew this was somewhere very special.
The cottage itself needed a lot of work, but the potential was clear. Over time, it has been carefully restored and reimagined into the place it is now.
After living in the cottage part time for many years, I now live nearby in the hilltop village of Elton, just a few minutes away.
Like Winster, I can step straight out of the door and onto the hills, which I try to do most mornings. I spend as much time as I can exploring the Peak District, and still feel very lucky to call this place home.
Being nearby means I’m usually on hand if you need anything during your stay — while still giving you the space to relax and enjoy the cottage as your own.
A Place to Slow Down
Lancaster Cottage has always been about creating a space where people can slow down and relax.
Whether you’re here for long walks, quiet days, or simply a change of pace, the aim is that the cottage feels welcoming, comfortable and easy to settle into — somewhere you can properly switch off.
You are Part of the Ongoing Story
One of the things I enjoy most is knowing that the cottage is almost always being lived in and enjoyed.
Each guest becomes part of its ongoing story — bringing their own moments, memories and experiences to a place that has already been through quite a journey.
